Speaking at the opening of the conference “Coal – contested energy source”, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic said that using coal as an energy source is a bleak reality in Serbia, since it produces about 70 % of its electricity in coal-fired thermal power plants, but also expressed hope that the usage of other energy sources will increase in the future.
Minister Antic pointed out that Serbia has set several priorities in the energy sector: harmonization of its legislation on the use of coal with EU standards, the investments in environmental protection and the increase of energy efficiency.
