Albanian Minister of Energy Damian Gjiknuri presented the draft amendments to the energy law, saying that these amendments will make serious advancements in a difficult and time consuming project related to the establishment of liberalized electricity market in Albania.
Minister Gjiknuri explained that currently Albania has a small liberalized market and some 10 % of electricity is sold freely on the market, adding that these amendments should increase the number of customers who can participate on the free market. In theory, the existing law proscribes that most of customers on the 35 kV network could participate in the free market, but most of them are having difficulties to find a supplier and new amendments to the nergy law should overcome these difficulties.
