Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said that Bulgaria should pay the money owed to Russian company Atomstroyexport (ASE) as a compensation for the cancelled nuclear power plant Belene project as soon as possible.
According to PM Borisov, it is no longer an issue whether the construction would be profitable or not, the issue now is to pay back the owed amount immediately and thus avoid paying penalties of 167,000 euros per day. He stated that Bulgaria has to pay 557 million euros for the two manufactured nuclear reactors as soon as possible, since without paying the project can not move forward in any direction.
