Greek Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) is considering the acquisition of 20 % stake in the project for the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Alexandroupoli in Northern Greece, after 20 % stake in the project has been acquired by GasLog.
DEPA’s interest in the project was initially expressed during the company’s previous management, but it has been revived after a series of meetings with the representatives of Gastrade, which is promoting the construction of Alexandroupoli LNG terminal. Revived interest is also connected to the construction of gas interconnection with Bulgaria, as these two projects could strengthen Greece’s ambitions of becoming a regional gas hub. This project has been licensed in 2011, it has support of the European Commission and was included in the latest list of European projects of common interest (PCI), which will be subsidized by the EU.
