During his visit to Albania, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti said that the EBRD is considering providing financial support for the construction of Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline (TAP), which should transport natural gas from Azerbaijan to Italy, via Greece and Albania.
Chakrabarti said that TAP project is of great interest to the bank and that it could help increase energy security of the region and that it is considered environmentally sustainable. In the energy sector, the EBRD is very aware of the need to secure energy for Europe, which is easily accessible and acceptable from the standpoint of climate change. In this context, the bank has very positive attitude towards the TAP project, Chakrabarti concluded.
