Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, Director Internal Energy Market at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy, said at the Varna International Gas Conference that the European Commission (EC) is ready to get involved in any kind of negotiation regarding the Bulgarian Balkan gas hub project, adding that the project is not only important to Bulgaria and the EU, but for the entire region as well.
Borchardt said that EC is prepared to take part in negotiations regardless of whether these talks involve Russia, Turkey or any other interested country and Bulgaria, and called Russia to get involved in Balkan gas hub project. He added that Bulgaria has until 9 November to submit a feasibility study for the project in order to secure EU funding.
