Following the last week’s comment made by former Minister of Energy Rumen Ovcharov that well known western investor is interested in the abandoned nuclear power plant Belene project, Stanislav Georgiev, Executive Secretary of Bulatom, a non-profit organization representing nuclear energy businesses and experts, said that there have been two offers from private investors interested in the construction of NPP Belene.
Georgiev named French energy company EDF as one of the potential investors, while the other proposal came from an American financial consortium. He said that EDF was more acceptable option, as this is an investor with long-term funding options, adding that, while a private investor would find a solution to political turbulence caused by the project, it would take up to two years to restart it.
