Romanian gas distributor Distrigaz Sud Retele has ordered a garnishment on all bank accounts of Bucharest-based thermal energy producer ELCEN for an amount of 2.6 million euros.
The bailiff mandated by Distrigaz froze ELCEN’s accounts and the garnishment has also been extended to the company’s customers, including the energy distributor RADET. It was said that the garnishment could be lifted if ELCEN immediately pays a first installment of 1.3 million euros or 50 % of the original claim. The representatives of ELCEN said that this means that the company could stop the production of electricity and thermal energy as of 9 September, so more than half of Bucharest’s households will be left without hot water.
