ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION IN SEPTEMBER 5.3% HIGHER YEAR-ON-YEAR (TURKEY)

Electricity consumption in September has increased by 5.33% year-on-year, and reached 21,508 GWh (20,419 GWh in September 2013). On the other hand, electricity consumption in September has decreased by 11.1% comparing to August 2014. Net import during September 2014 stood at 337 GWh, while electricity generation was increased by 6.12% year-on-year.

During first 9 months of 2014, electricity consumption reached 192.78 TWh, 4.5% increase comparing to the same period in 2013. In the same time, electricity generation increased by 5.1%

Turkish transmission system operator, TEIAS, estimates that electricity consumption in 2014 would reach 256 TWh. Turkey´s electricity consumption increased by 78% and reached 235 TWh in 2013, comparing to 140 TWh in 2003. According to Turkey`s  Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, electricity consumption is expected to double till 2023, to 450 TWh.
