According to the data Albanian Institute of Statistics (Instat), in the first half of 2016 Albania exported 1.29 TWh of electricity, which is 53.3 % more than in the same period last year. At the same time, country’s electricity imports reached 776 GWh, which is 4.7 % less than during the same period in 2015.
The reasons for such an increase in electricity exports are more favorable hydrology in 2016 and slightly decreased losses in transmission and distribution networks. According to Instat’s report, hydropower plants in Albania, as the country’s sole electricity production facilities, produced 4.06 TWh of electricity in the first six months of 2016, which is 8.2 % more than in the same period last year.
