Energy project and cooperation in that field were in the focus of talks between the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov and his Azeri counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov during his official visit to Baku on 13 May.
Minister Mitov said that the implementation of energy projects of mutual interest as well as projects of strategic initiatives of the EU in this sector will contribute to the enhancement of bilateral economic contacts between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. He also reiterated the Bulgaria’s position that Southern Gas Corridor project is of strategic importance for Bulgaria which is seeking options to diversify its gas supply sources and routes. He pointed out that Bulgaria has a geographically strategic position, which has a considerable potential for the diversification of gas and oil supply sources and routes. He also noted Bulgaria’s intentions to become regional natural gas hub, through its Balkan gas hub project, adding that the supply of gas from Azerbaijan will be an integral part of and the prerequisite for the implementation of that project.
