Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said that the European Union requested that Bulgaria has to sell its natural gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz in order to pay off a fine of up to 300 million euros.
PM Borisov explained that the EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager told him that Bulgartransgaz has to be sold, otherwise there will be an infringement procedure. This is a result of an ongoing EU antitrust investigation targeted at state-owned Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) and its alleged practice to deny the competition access to Bulgarian national gas network.
