Prosecutors of the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) have requested the approval of the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis to investigate four former Ministers (Mihai Tanasescu, Dan Ioan Popescu, Sebastian Vladescu and Gheorghe Pogea) regarding the case of Rompetrol’s privatization fraud.
DIICOT claims that the Minister of Finance Tanasescu and the Minister of Economy Popescu acted in bad faith in 2003 in order to promote the adoption of the emergency ordinance, according to which the Government converted Rompetrol’s debts in the amount of 603 million euros into shares.
