According to data from the National Institute for Statistics (INS), in the first five months of 2018 Romania imported 618,300 tons of oil equivalent of natural gas, which is 13.4 % or 73,100 tons of oil equivalent more than in the same period last year.
In the January-May 2018 period, domestic gas production amounted to 3.5 million tons of oil equivalent, which Is 1.6 % or 53,400 tons of oil equivalent higher than in the same period in 2017. According to the Romanian Energy Strategy draft, annual natural gas production is expected to slightly decrease and reach an average of 9 to 10 billion cubic meters between 2016 and 2030.
