According to a report published by Romanian natural gas producer Romgaz, in cooperation with its Russian partner Lukoil, the company is preparing new exploration drilling activities in offshore Trident block in the Black Sea, with an estimated gas reserves of 30 billion cubic meters.
In 2010, Russian oil company Lukoil and Vanco International, which later became PanAtlantic Petroleum, obtained the license for exploration and exploitation of oil and gas in EX-29 East Rapsodia and EX-30 Trident blocks in the Black Sea. Two years later, Romgaz signed the agreement with these two companies, acquiring 10 % stake in the two blocks, but withdrew from the East Rapsodia block in the meantime.
