According to the Romanian Commission for Economic Forecasting (CNP), domestic natural gas production will increase in the course of the next three years to 9 million tons of oil equivalent in 2020, while gas imports will droop to 700,000 tons of oil equivalent in the same year.
Natural gas production will increase from 7.48 million tons of oil equivalent in 2016 to 7.8 million in 2017 (4.2 %), to 8.2 million in 2018 (5.1 %), to 8.6 million in 2019 (4.9 %) and 9 million tons of oil equivalent in 2020 (4.7 %). Last year, Romanian gas output dropped by 15.6 %, mostly due to much cheaper imported gas.
