According to the State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Corina Popescu, one of the scenarios in the new Romanian Energy Strategy envisages the increase of electricity consumption by 1.5 to 2 % per year, but the current energy mix will remain intact.
Popescu said that in one of the scenarios, consumption is expected to increase by up to 2 %, adding that it is clear that renewables, nuclear, hydro, coal and gas will remain in the energy mix, but not to what extent. Since investments in industrial parks, office buildings and shopping centers have increased in the past year, investor are worried if Romania could be able to deal with the increased electricity consumption in the next decade.
