The data from Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources showed that in the first half of 2016 Turkey has commissioned a new power plant every two days. During this period, 95 new power plants, with the installed capacity of 3,452 MW, became operational in the country.
In the first six months of the year, 72.4 % of the new capacity was provided by thermal power plants, fueled by natural gas, domestic or imported coal. Wind power was accounted for 12.7 % of newly installed capacity, while hydropower plants were accounted for 11 %. The remaining 4 % goes to biogas and geothermal power plants.
