Bulgarian Parliament has adopted on the first reading the amendments to the Energy Law in the form of the two new bills.
First of the two bills, proposed by the United Patriots, extends the licensing powers of the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR). Under the new provisions, the regulator will authorize the sale and acquisition of sizable parts of the assets of companies that operate strategic energy infrastructure. Buyers should be strategic investors which can ensure the sustainable development of the country’s energy system and transparency in the sale of energy companies assets will also be ensured. For violations of the new provisions the energy transmission and distribution companies will have their license revoked.
