Greek Public Power Corporation (PPC) and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) are about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the construction of the second unit at thermal power plant Meliti in Northern Greece.
This will be the second largest Greek investment in the energy sector after TPP Ptolemaida V, a lignite-fueled thermal power plant in Northern Greece, which construction is currently in preliminary phase. PPC and CMEC are planning to establish a consortium in which the Chinese company will hold a majority stake. According to sources, TPP Meliti I will also be included in this joint venture with CMEC, which will fully finance the construction of the second unit estimated at some 700 million euros.
