President of Greek electricity distribution network operator DEDDIE Nikos Hatziargyriou said that the operator is planning to start procedures for the replacement of 7.5 million conventional electricity meters with the smart ones in 2018.
Hatziargyriou said that an international tender for a pilot program regarding the replacement of old meters and installation of smart ones has been completed, but this preliminary stage of the replacement project is delayed due to legal issues. However, DEDDIE is currently preparing a national rollout plan for the installation of 7.5 million smart meters in the next few years.
