According to the European Commission’s Energy Security Package, which is expected to be adopted by the EU Council of Ministers, Romania will have to supply electricity and natural gas to households in Bulgaria and Greece in case of severe supply interruptions in the region, even if it means that it has to stop supplying its own industrial consumers.
This package aims to establish “energy solidarity” within the EU. Under this principle, any EU member state will have to supply electricity and gas to households and other vulnerable consumers in neighboring countries on the expense of supplying its own industry and businesses in case of severe energy supply interruptions.
