Romanian Minister of Energy Victor Grigorescu said that the Ministry of Energy is currently exploring the possibility of building several smaller hydropower plants throughout the country instead of large HPP Tarnita-Lapustesti, which construction was estimated atabout one billion euros.
This pump storage HPP was supposed to have a role of balancing the Romanian energy system. Minister Grigorescu explained that the Ministry plans to analyze whether it would be more viable to build a system of smaller pump storage HPPs throughout the country. He added that no studies have been performed yet on this matter, but preliminary assessment were made. There is also a possibility that each of these smaller plants would be financed separately, so there could be more than one investor involved.
