Romanian state-owned natural gas producer Romgaz will invest 136 million euros in the construction of gas storage facility in Sarmasel in Mures county, in order to increase its storage capacities. The facility will be put into operation in April 2024. The tender for the feasibility study of the project is expected to be launched in February 2018.
Additional 87 million euros will be invested in the private gas storage facility in Depomures, which will be jointly owned by Engie and Romgaz. The commissioning of this facility is expected in 2022. Romgaz currently operates six gas storage facilities in Romania, with a total working capacity of 2.92 billion cubic meters. It also owns a 41 % stake in the Depomures gas storage facility with Engie.
