According to Katja Yafimava, senior researcher at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Russia may implement “lite” versions of both TurkStream and south Stream gas pipelines, in order to supply natural gas to Turkey and Europe bypassing Ukraine.
Yafimava believes that after the improvement of relations between Turkey and Russia, the negotiations between the countries on the construction of TurkStream will be restarted, which will allow the implementation of the project by 2020 at earliest. She added that the construction of just one pipe is the most likely option.
