Director of Srbijagas Dusan Bajatovic said after the Varna International Gas Conference that Serbia may get 60 million euros from the European Commission (EC) for the construction of its section of gas interconnection with Bulgaria (Nis-Dimitrovgrad-Sofia gas pipeline).
Bajatovic said that this interconnection will allow Serbia to get gas supplies from the direction of Bulgaria and added that EC is prepared to finance other interconnections from its funds such as Bulgaria-Greece-Turkey and Bulgaria-Romania, so that Bulgaria could become a regional gas hub. However, the issue of providing sufficient amounts of gas in order to make these pipelines financially viable still remains, said Bajatovic, adding that gas would be supplied to Bulgaria from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Austrian Baumgarten and that both Bulgaria and the EC agreed that the supply of natural gas from Russia would certainly make gas hub project more commercially viable, especially when it comes to future price of gas.
