The Assembly of Split-Dalmatia County has decided to suspend the project for the construction of gas-fired thermal power plant at Peruca lake in order to focus on renewable energy.
The project, which is a part of a larger Vis Viva project, has been cancelled after several pleas by politicians and non-governmental organizations due to environmental issues. Although several experts claimed that the plant would not have significant impact on the health of the population in the area, it was concluded that the construction of the plant indeed poses an environmental hazard, since it could pollute drinking water reservoirs in the area.
