The head of the Hellenic Hydrocarbons Resources Management (HHRM), Yannis Bassias siad that tender for offshore oil and gas exploration and exploitation west and south of Greece have attracted strong interest of companies involved in such explorations in the Mediterranean.
However, Bassias declined to name these companies as tender procedures are ongoing. Greece launched the tenders after expressions of interest by a consortium of ExxonMobil, Total and Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE) for two sites off the island of Crete and by Greece’s Energean Oil & Gas for a block in the Ionian Sea. The bids have to be submitted by the end of March and preferred bidders will be announced in May.
