According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 4 June 2023 has decreased by 21.95 % compared to 2022 and reached 18.03 TWh.
Bulgaria’s electricity consumption also decreased in the same period, by 5.21 % reaching a total of 16.6 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 1.44 TWh in 2023, 74.3 % less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 14.78 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 24.19 % less than in 2022.

The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 23.44 % to 855.5 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 2.56 % to 973.3 GWh.
