Speaking at the ceremony for the 15th anniversary of the establishing of the national energy regulator EPDK, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak said that Turkey may become an energy exporter in ten year’s time.
Minister Albayrak stressed that Turkey currently spends over 50 million dollars in energy and mineral imports every year, but it may turn in energy exporter in the next ten years, adding that Turkey now produces 49.3 % of its energy needs from domestic resources. In the next 10 years, Turkey needs to increase the share of domestic resources in electricity generation to at least two-thirds and in order to accomplish this, everyone from those involved in infrastructure to regulations, from incentives to legislation will have to work together, Minister Albayrak concluded.
