Montenegrin Ministry of Economy said in the statement that the Government of Montenegro has defined the project for the construction of second unit at thermal power plant Pljevlja through its strategic documents because the construction of unit 2 provides long-term perspective for the operation of Pljevlja coalmine by 2060 at least.
The statement stressed that without the investments in thermal power plant, Pljevlja coalmine has no perspective. According to the Ministry, this is a firm denial of the claims, said by opposition parties, that allegedly the main condition for A2A’s approval of the construction of second unit at TPP Pljevlja was a merger of Pljevlja coalmine with power utility EPCG. On the contrary, the investment in new unit at TPP Pljevlja will enable the survival of the coalmine, not its dissolution.
