On 26 March, Greek sole liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal Revythoussa near Athens will be closed for three months in order to enable the completion of the facility’s upgrade, which will increase its storage capacity.
The temporary closure of the terminal, planned between 26 March and 10 June, has been timed to coincide with reduced gas consumption levels typically registered during this period.
However, the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) has prepared an emergency plan in case natural gas-fueled electricity producers demand increased gas amounts during the early stages of summer, as has been the case in recent years. The plan entails increased natural gas imports from Russia and Turkey, and, if needed, switching of PPC’s facilities in Lavrio and Komotini from natural gas to diesel.
