Former Bulgarian Minister of Energy Rumen Ovcharov said that a western company is interested in the cancelled project for the construction of nuclear power plant Belene, adding that the potential investor is a renowned company and the idea is not to spend any state funds on the project.
However, Ovcharov refused to disclose any further detail, adding that it should be done by the current Minister of Energy. He urged that the outgoing Government considers the situation and that the moratorium on the construction of nuclear power plant must be lifted. He also commented that Bulgaria suffered the detriment after the NPP Belene project was abandoned. According to him, the damage to state was not done by three government which worked on the project nor the Ministers who implemented government decrees, stating that those who scrapped the project are to blame.
